Ando was born in Taiwan, and moved to Osaka, started to make salt, then became a citizen of Japan. He was in jail for two years because of tax evasion. After World War 2, Japan was in food crisis. Ministry of health in Japan urge the citizen of Japan to eat bread out of meat flour provided from America, but Ando thinks noodle should be more familiar to the citizen of Japan compare to bread. So there was his idea.

After many trials and error, Ando introduced the first precooked instant noodle called Chikin Ramen. On September 18 1971, he introduced the first cup noodle, called "Kapura Nodura". It was a booming business.
